Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman

Mohammed bin Salman, commonly known as MBS, has been Saudi Arabia’s crown prince since 2017. As the son of King Salman, he holds extensive executive power and has become the kingdom’s central decision-maker. His swift rise has reshaped Saudi political dynamics.

At the core of his agenda is Vision 2030, an ambitious plan aimed at diversifying the Saudi economy beyond oil. The strategy promotes tourism, technology, industry and large-scale infrastructure projects designed to modernise the country and attract foreign investment.

Social reforms have also marked his leadership, which has seen expanded opportunities for women and the development of entertainment and cultural sectors alongside strict political oversight and limited tolerance for dissent.

Internationally, Mohammed bin Salman pursues an assertive foreign policy to strengthen Saudi Arabia’s regional influence. However, his image remains controversial, particularly on human rights issues. Nevertheless, MBS remains a defining figure of contemporary Saudi Arabia, which is balancing modernisation efforts with centralised authority.
