Elon Musk

Born in South Africa and a naturalised US citizen, Elon Musk has played a major role in reshaping industries through companies such as Tesla, SpaceX and Neuralink.

With Tesla, Musk helped accelerate the adoption of electric vehicles while SpaceX transformed the space industry by developing reusable rockets and lowering launch costs working closely with public space agencies. These advances aim to make space exploration more accessible and sustainable.

Musk’s public influence grew significantly after being tapped to lead the so-called Department of Government Efficiency, or DOGE, which promised to save billions in taxpayer money under the Trump administration. But data breaches and his slash-and-burn approach to public expenditures sparked chaos and controversy – particularly after government spending went up, not down, on DOGE's watch. Musk's public statements, often odd or controversial, have also generated questions over his broader vision and understanding of world affairs. Supporters praise his boldness while critics question the broader impact of his statements on both markets and public debate.

While Musk remains a polarising figure, admired for his innovative drive but also criticised for his confrontational approach to politics and public affairs, he continues to shape the discussion around technology and the future of global industry.
